Canvas Update 4: Password reset for all MyCOM accounts

Friday, May 8, 2026, 3:30 PM

Current Status

Canvas continues to remain unavailable for College of Marin while the college continues coordinating with statewide cybersecurity partners, the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, Instructure, and external cybersecurity advisors.

As part of College of Marin’s ongoing response to this cybersecurity incident, College of Marin IT will be requiring a password reset for all MyCOM accounts.

Why This Is Happening

While there is currently no indication that College of Marin internal systems have been compromised, proactively resetting passwords is one of the most effective ways to help protect students, faculty, staff, and college systems during incidents like this.

This step helps:

  • Reduce the risk of unauthorized account access

  • Protect user accounts and institutional systems

  • Strengthen the overall security of the College of Marin community

What to Expect

Beginning with your next login to the MyCOM Portal or district computers, you will be prompted to create a new password.

Since College of Marin uses Single Sign-On (SSO), changing your password in one place will automatically update it across connected college systems.

For Faculty and Staff

Faculty may continue communicating important updates regarding assignments, deadlines, and course materials through MyCOM webmail while Canvas remains unavailable.

For Students

Your instructors will be in communication via MyCOM webmail regarding assignment, deadlines and course materials.

Future Updates

Additional updates will continue to be posted to this page as more information becomes available.

Canvas Update 3: Access Remains Restricted

Friday, May 8, 2026, 10:30 AM

Current Status

While some colleges may already be restoring access to Canvas, College of Marin continues to follow guidance from the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office and cybersecurity partners before restoring broad access to the platform.

Our priority remains protecting our students, employees, and institutional data. Canvas access through MyCOM and SSO authentication remains restricted for non-administrative users while we continue evaluating the safety of the environment.

If you currently still have access to Canvas through an existing authenticated session, please log out immediately.

  • Carefully verify unexpected messages before responding

  • Enable multi-factor authentication whenever available
