Password Reset

What to Expect

Beginning with your next login to the MyCOM Portal or district computers, you will be prompted to create a new password.

Since College of Marin uses Single Sign-On (SSO), changing your password in one place will automatically update it across connected college systems.

Faculty and staff returning to campus Monday may experience additional login prompts, password reset requests, or increased Service Desk wait times as these security changes take effect.

Password & Security Recommendations

CAL-CSIC and statewide cybersecurity partners continue recommending the following best practices:

  • Be cautious of phishing emails, suspicious links, and unexpected attachments
  • Avoid reusing passwords across multiple sites or personal accounts
  • Report suspicious activity or emails to IT immediately
  • Do not respond to extortion or cryptocurrency-related scam emails connected to this incident

Mobile Device Password Reset Help

We are aware of a current issue on some mobile devices where the password requirement helper text may not display correctly during the password reset process. We are actively working with our vendor on a fix.

Students experiencing issues on mobile devices are encouraged to reset their passwords using a campus computer lab or desktop computer for the best experience

If you are resetting your password on a mobile device:

  • Try rotating your phone to landscape mode
  • If available, use a desktop or laptop computer for the easiest experience

Password Complexity

Your new password must:

  • Be at least 12 characters long

  • Include at least one uppercase letter (A-Z)

  • Include at least one lowercase letter (a-z)

  • Include at least one number (0-9)

  • Include at least one special character (example: ! @ # $ % ^ & * _ - + =)

Your password cannot:

  • Include personal names

  • Use common words or dictionary words

  • Contain more than 3 numbers in sequence

Important Notes

  • Too many failed password attempts will temporarily lock your account for 10 minutes

  • Passwords expire periodically and will need to be updated in the future

For Faculty and Staff

Faculty may continue communicating important updates regarding assignments, deadlines, and course materials through MyCOM webmail while Canvas remains unavailable.

For Students

Your instructors will continue communicating through MyCOM webmail regarding assignments, deadlines, and course materials.

Future Updates

Additional updates will continue to be posted to this page as more information becomes available.

We appreciate the patience and support of the campus community as we continue working through this situation. While core Canvas functionality is available, some third-party tools and integrations remain temporarily unavailable as IT and vendor partners continue recovery, validation, and reconnection efforts.
